Read Faster with the Velocity Reading App for iPhone and iPad

How to manage to read everything we consider valuable and useful? Speed reading apps can be the right tool to help us handle this task effectively.
When it comes to a stack of articles, Velocity lends a helping hand, by enabling to read faster. Requiring iOS, it is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and can be purchased at $2.99. The following article is a brief app review on Velocity.
How does it Work?
Velocity functions on the basis of Rapid Serial Visual Presentation which displays one word at a time in the middle of your screen. The idea is simple: you can read at a faster pace if you don’t move your eyes across lines of text.
The average reading rate for an adult is 200-250 WPM (words per minute), which actually coincides with our speaking pace. It is explained by a phenomenon called subvocalization, forcing us to pronounce words in our minds while reading. Velocity helps to break the habit of subvocalization, thus silencing our “inner” voice and empowering us to read faster.

Velocity App: Highlights and Features
Services: Reading services like Instapaper, Pocket and Readability are linked to the app to make our reading experience much easier. Velocity enables to open texts and links, already saved in these reading sources, and read them with customized speed. You can also browse and save texts from the web, keep them in the app to read later or simply copy URLs and open them with it.
Tracking: You will enjoy the app’s ability to calculate how long it will take you to read the text before you get down to reading. Once you are done, you will be shown how fast your reading has been. Afterward, a share button will be active for you to brag about your reading achievements on social websites, via email or a message.
Settings: Reading preferences can be customized in the Settings. Modify the reading pace (from 200-1000 WPM) and the number of words at a time on the screen. Choose among three different themes: light – to read in the daylight, dark – for night readings, and sepia – designed to care for your eyes. The app also provides five different fonts, one of them being specially created for dyslexic readers.
Consider Before Using
Most reviews prompt that it’s essential to start with a rate you feel comfortable at and increase the pace over time, otherwise, you may end up having a stressful experience. Secondly, we are used to reading lines of words, so flashing words may seem jarring at first. No worries! With practice, your eyes will get accustomed to them. Last but not least, reap the benefits of reading fast, but never sacrifice comprehension to pace. All in all, the final goal is to understand what you have read rather than race to the end.
Tip: There are also other apps on the market you may want to compare before making a final decision.
